Protect your Passwords in Cyber cafes

Although internet has reached every place, still there are people who access internet in Cyber cafes. Some people regularly go to Cyber cafes to access internet, while others access only in certain time when they are in an urgent need.

Most of the Cyber cafes use several methods to steal your passwords. My suggestion for writing this article is by my bad experience at a Cyber cafe.

Protect your Passwords in Cyber cafes

Two days ago, when I had an urgent need to check my mail at Cyber cafe. I logged into my account through Mozilla Firefox. When I logged in, a pop out window appeared with a message “save the password”, “not now”, “never for this site” and I selected “not now”, because I already know that the passwords can be viewed in Firefox which I have shown you in

After checking my mails, I logout and fortunately I checked the saved passwords in Firefox.
I was shocked!!!

Because even my Email username and password was saved. Even though I selected not to save my password earlier, my password had been saved by some sort of trick in that Cyber cafe.

This is the screenshot that I took at the moment in that Cyber cafe, even my password is included here :(

Protect your Passwords in Cyber cafes

To protect your passwords while accessing internet in Cyber cafes, do the following tricks.

Trick 01

Use “Onscreen Keyboard” to type your Username and Password but sometimes virus or key logger may have disable “Onscreen Keyboard”. In this case, you have to use the below trick.

Trick 02

This trick is to confuse key logger.
Suppose if you want to login “Gmail” with the following Username and Password.

Username - fazlul001
Password – Pa$$w0rd

Now just open “Notepad” and enter your password with some random characters in between as shown below.
Protect your Passwords in Cyber cafes

And now just copy the appropriate characters (password) into login box using “mouse” and login to your account.
This trick will definitely cheat the key logger installed in PCs at Cyber cafes.

Some other tips to be safe at cyber cafes.

Whenever you access internet in any other PC, make sure that the PC is up to date with latest Antivirus and Anti spyware programs to avoid Trojans.

Delete the “History” in the web browser.

Make sure that you are properly logout.

PREVENTING POP-UPS

Pop-up ads aren’t the massive problem they once were, but they’re still a nuisance. And because most reputable sites now steer clear of them, a lot of the pop-ups that do still exist have the potential to carry malware.
The best way to avoid pop-ups is to adjust the settings on your web browser to prevent those annoying pages from opening. For the major browsers the process is virtually the same. In Firefox, go to your preferences, then select ‘Content’ and check off the box to ‘Block pop-up windows.’ There is an ‘Exceptions’ button you can click to allow sites you know and trust to produce pop-ups. In Safari you’ll find the ‘Block pop-up windows’ box under the security tab of preferences; in Internet Explorer, click on ‘Internet Options’ in settings, then click the ‘Privacy’ tab and check the ‘Turn on Pop-up Blocker’ box. If you’re using Google Chrome, follow the same initial steps by going to the browser’s settings, then scrolling down to Privacy; there, click on the ‘Content Settings’ tab and scroll down to the Pop-ups section. Here you can allow or disallow popups and manage exceptions you wish to make.
If and when potentially malicious popups do open, don’t click on them, even if you’re trying to close them. Instead, close them by right-clicking your mouse and closing them from the menu.
Of course the next best way, and the safest way of all, to avoid popups is to practice safe web behavior — don’t visit sites that you don’t know and trust, and don’t click on ads that look like spam. Similarly, don’t open attachments in emails from senders you don’t recognize, including those that are forwarded to you from trusted sources but come originally from people or entities that you do not know. That’s how a lot of viruses are transmitted.
Of course the next best way, and the safest way of all, to avoid popups is to practice safe web behavior — don’t visit sites that you don’t know and trust, and don’t click on ads that look like spam.
If you do start to get popups on your computer despite taking the above steps your system may well be infected, so it is important to always have a robust antivirus software, to update it regularly and to routinely scan your system for infections. And of course, as always, keeping your browsers and other system software continually updated is the best way to keep your system safe.

Hi Guys For Android Lover Like Me I Am Going To Share A Tutorial Running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean On VirtualBox

Firefox OS : An operating system for Open web in open web standards

Mozilla Corporation is yet to release Firefox OS in smart phones in 2013, Firefox OS is a new mobile operating system developed by Mozilla's Boot to Gecko (B2G) project. It uses a Linux kernel and boots into a Gecko-based run time engine, which lets users run applications developed entirely using HTML, JavaScript, and other open web application APIs. Firefox OS is currently under heavy development as of now.It provides an open Web to mobile devices.

Important Aspects of Firefox OS:

1) The Firefox Marketplace is Open Source, unlike Google's Android market which has free apps & also premium apps.

2) Install Apps from Any Domain: Mozilla doesn't hold users hostage when it comes to installing new apps; instead of needing to jump over to the device's app store app, Mozilla provides a JavaScript API for installing web apps from any allowed domains.

3) The Apps for this OS are created in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript .

TECHNICAL ASPECTS:

Website of Firefox OS:

www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefoxos

Resources for Developers:

The documentation, Firefox platform details etc have been provided at:
Firefox_OS_Developer_Resources

There comes disadvantages along with disadvantages !!!!!!

What disadvantages can we reckon in security perspective ???????

Yeah! Got it! Java script!

In Firefox OS , the applications( aka Websites) are developed in HTML,CSS & Java script.

So the apps developed for this platform are vulnerable to HTML & Java script injection attacks and also many more web application security issues arise .

Mobile operating system of Ubuntu is now ready to compete with already established mobile platforms - Google Android, Apple iOS, Microsoft Windows Phone and BlackBerry OS platforms.

As per Shuttleworth,”Ubuntu mobile OS will be available in two large geographic markets by October.” He further added,”Even the cellular operators are interested in breaking the Smartphone market hegemony of Apple and Google devices.”

Currently, there are no details on the handset partners and mobile carriers who would be come up with the first Ubuntu mobile OS running Smartphone. Let’s hope that more details are shared at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Spain

Top 5 smartphones around Rs. 10,000 mark

sony-samsung-635.jpg

If you were planning to buy a smartphone under Rs. 10,000 a couple of years ago, then there were only a handful of options that were available. Moreover, those few handsets too were not really worthy of the tag 'smartphone'.
However, things have changed dramatically now. There are not only Indian brands that are trying to get affordable, feature-packed smartphones to the Indian masses but even companies such as Samsung, Sony and Nokia are trying to make sure that they address the needs of price sensitive consumers.

Given that it's now getting difficult for one to pick up the right smartphone, this gifting season we bring you the list of Top Five smartphone under the Rs. 10,000 price bracket that are currently available in the market.

1) Samsung Galaxy Music Duos
Samsung had started selling smartphones at the fag-end of December for Rs. 9,199 through its official store. However one can find it on some of the leading online retail websites for Rs. 8,990.
Samsung Galaxy Music Duos is a dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) smartphone that comes with 3.0-inch QVGA screen. Other features of this smartphone include 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage (expandable by another 32GB) and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It comes with 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1300mAh battery. It is available in two colour options Ceramic White and Splash Blue.
Samsung in October 2012 had announced Samsung Galaxy Music (single SIM version of this smartphone), but there's no word yet on when that'll be launched in India.

2) Sony Xperia tipo/ Sony Xperia tipo dual
Sony had launched Sony Xperia tipo and its dual SIM variant Sony Xperia tipo dual in September 2012. Sony Xperia tipo is now available at a street price of Rs. 8,990 and Xperia tipo dual for Rs. 9,990.
Sony Xperia tipo sports a 3.2-inch TFT display with 480x320 pixel resolution. It is powered by is 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and run on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Other features include 512MB of RAM, 2.5GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32 GB via microSD). There is a 3.2-megapixel autofocus rear camera on board.
lumia-510-635.jpg
3) Nokia Lumia 510
Nokia Lumia 510 is the cheapest Windows smartphone available in the market. It carries the price tag of Rs. 9,999 and comes with a 4-inch WVGA screen. It is powered by 800MHz Qualcomm processor along with 256MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. There is a 5-megapixel rear camera on board.
The only read drawback for this smartphone is that it runs on Windows Phone 7.5, and will get an upgrade only to Windows 7.8, which means no Windows 8 for this baby.

4) BlackBerry Curve 9220
Launched in April 2012, BlackBerry Curve 9220 is an interesting smartphone to look at especially if you want to connect with their BlackBerry Messenger Gang. Available for Rs. 10,990 this is slightly above our cut-off, but worth looking at nonetheless.

Some of the notable features of this smartphone includes 2.44-inch TFT Screen, 2-megapixel camera, 1450 mAhbattery, 512 MB internal memory (expandable up to 32 GB via microSD). BlackBerry Curve 9220 is powered by 800 MHz processor with 512MB of RAM.It runs on BlackBerry OS 7.1 but given that BlackBerry will soon be unveiling a brand new operating system BlackBerry 10 on January 30, this smartphone and all existing counterparts will likely become obsolete very soon.
5) Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas
If you are looking for an affordable big screen smartphone, then Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2 is an enticing option. It sports a 5-inch TFT capacitive touch screen IPS display and powered by a 1GHz processor. The other features of this smartphone are 2GB internal storage (expendable,by 32GB), 2000 mAh battery, 8-megapixel auto focus camera and a VGA front camera. The smartphone is available at a street price of Rs. 9,999 and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

8 useful tips to turbocharge your Gmail experience

gmail_logo_635.png

What's the best thing about Gmail? Yes, it has so many cool features, but the fact that it keeps evolving and including new features frequently is what I love the most. That also means that no matter how long you've been a Gmail user, it's possible there's some hidden gem you're not aware of. So, today I'll share some useful Gmail tips to spice up your everyday usage of this tool. Some of these might be familiar, some entirely new. Here we go.

1. Mute
You are likely to find this feature in all such Gmail lists out there and I still continue to be surprised by the ignorance about it. Just yesterday I was at an event and brought it up in a conversation about Gmail. Some of the blank faces were proof enough that more word needs to be spread about this awesome feature. In a nutshell, this feature basically lets you ignore a message thread that you no longer want to be a part of. Here's a nice guide on how to use Gmail's Mute feature effectively.

2. Selective quoting in replies
I knew about this too but I was pleasantly surprised at this one getting traction in Hacker news recently. Certainly a useful one. When replying an email, if you just want to quote (or highlight) a part of the email that you received, all you need to do is select it and then click the reply button. Instead of quoting the entire email, Gmail will only show that specific part to the recipient.

3. Using the gems in Labs
I am sure almost all of you know about Gmail Labs that can be accessed from its settings. Gmail keeps releasing new Labs features every now and then, and unless you diligently follow tech news like me, chances are you don't know about many of them. Why not pay a visit to the Labs page again and try out some. Some of which that I use are Mark as Read button, Multiple Inboxes and Quick Links.

4. Search Gmail like a Pro
How to quickly filter Gmail by unread emails? By typing is:unread in the search box. But that shows all unread mails. What about the ones only in the inbox? Answer: Type is:unread label:inbox in the search box. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Here's a guide to searching Gmail efficiently with operators. Oh, and you can also search for emails by size now.

5. Account activity
The account activity link that used to appear prominently in the middle at the bottom of Gmail interface has now been tucked into the bottom right corner for some reason. That means users who don't know about the feature could easily miss it. It's an excellent security feature though. Shows all your active sessions and also allows you to sign out of other sessions. Forgot to log out of your Gmail on another computer? No problem, come home, sign in to Gmail, click on that link and click "sign out of all other sessions." Simple.

6. Off the record
This feature has existed in Gmail for like forever but still many don't know about it. It's a feature in Gmail chat, and as its name suggests, it lets you prevent Gmail from saving the history of your ongoing chat. You'll find it under the More menu in the chat (only in Gmail chat, not in Gtalk). The benefits are obvious.

7. Paste unformatted text quickly
You must have encountered this many times. You copy paste something from the web or from a Word document, and Gmail pastes it like it is, with all the formatting intact. More often than not, this isn't something the user wants. An easy way to paste unformatted text is to use Ctrl+Shift+V. Here are 2 more ways to do it.

8. Increase Undo Send time
The last one, and a life-saving one, is the undo send feature. If you took the point 3 above seriously then you must have already found and enabled it in Gmail Labs. But you shouldn't stop there. You should go to Settings and under General, under Undo Send you should increase the time for which the Undo Send link appears after you send an email. Doesn't hurt to do that.

What are some of your favourite Gmail tips? Leave a comment.
